Eminent Domain In Texas by Candian Oil Company has a unlikely group protesting for property owners – The Tea Party

I always knew that one day, probably when it was to late, the folks that follow the tea party mouthpieces would one day wake up and find the ungoverned companies that they fought to get the government out of the way for,  staring them in the face in a way they would not much appreciate.

I never dreamed it would come so soon. Tea Party activist along with environmentalist and ranchers are fighting a eminent domain action for the TransCanada Keystone XL pipeline in Texas.

The pipeline builder would be TransCanada. They are the oil sands extractor in western Canada. They do not want to call it the TransCanada Pipeline because it sounds foreign doesn’t it. So they call it Keystone Pipeline and this section noted as the XL tract as most of this was built some time ago.

I followed this because I thought it bizarre that a foreign company could use eminent domain to seize private land for its use.  But much to my surprise when I found the tea party out with the environmentalist in a protest.

Well as it turns out, to have the power to pull eminent domain in Texas, you are required in your paperwork to “check the box” that you are a “common carrier”. No proof required and no inquiry will be preformed to this fact. You know the standard government-out-of-the-way stuff.

Having made it though the county courts it will now be appealed. They vow to go all the way to the Supreme Court if needed.

The low value oil is only to be shipped to one or two companies but more important, it can be shipped overseas  as it will go to a export bay where the oil will not benefit the U.S.

So there you have it. A clear case of the tea party having got the government out of the way and not liking it ! But what about the jobs? What about the government staying out of the way? I hope this gets a little publicity so other tea party folks can see what they have been asking for, in action, firsthand.

The main thing these folks fail to understand, by not being a steward of history, is that these rules you fight to remove were hard fought for in the past by those severely disaffected and those in the fear of the same. Problem is those fighting to remove them probably will not be the ones newly disaffected. Now some blood will have to be spilled “again” to get it back to where it was.

If you want a  example, look up the post bank crash –  Glass-Steagall Act of 1932 and the repeal in 1999 that led to the banking crisis. Rules they are still fighting to get back in place.

RNC Convention A Flop? No, But It Was A Very Big Mistake

So Mitt Romney did a fair job of expressing on a personal basis just who he is. It was needed. Problem is, along with false jabs at the President was the only thing else presented. Clint Eastwood’s performance was a major distraction in what could have been favorable news coverage after the event.

OK, he rallied his troops. I thought he was after the undecideds?

The end result will be what soon follows ” his big mistake “.

Along with showing his true personality, This was a time to bring the big picture in a message about what he wanted to do and how he wanted to do it. I somehow have a feeling that he did not do that because he knows he will sink with it.

If the public can get a reasonable idea of just who gets hurt in his policy’s he looses, hands down. Better to wait until the last possible moment before a debate so the opposition has not enough time to attack it effectively.

This lost opportunity will be defined by the democrats maybe as soon as their convention. The Republicans will now be playing defense till election day. Not a nice place to be right after your acceptance speech.

Moot Predictions!

So, now it looks like we shall be seeing and hearing all of that money in the Romney campaign and his super pac be spent on very negative adds. The super pac will need to spread a bunch of lies playing over and over. This method is normally effective like the DJ playing a song you did not initially like but after you hear it a hundred times you may be dancing to its tune. Remember the “HEAD ON” commercial ?

If they did not know it was very effective, they would not do it.

Without even waiting for the DNC convention, I am willing to predict that Oboma will win by a larger margin than last time around. That is a pretty good leap even with all of those Voter ID laws removing a bunch a voters who would most likely vote democratic. Gee, why should I trust them with my vote, they may find a way to keep me out of the polls if I should disagree.

After the DNC convention, I predict the democrats will soon define Romneys’ policy’s  and go after Congress. I think a change hear is not out of the question if they play it right.

The Republicans, have come off to me as a group that is losing power and will try to change the rules so that they may keep it. I see a new Party emerging and replacing them. After all, what moderate conservative can stand a chance with those neo-capitolist… I mean tea-baggers… I mean tea party folks and the hard non compromising stance they push. The remnant tea party will go it alone through the RNC (where the money is).

The last prediction is that nobody will remember I said it first !  Moot!

The Fiscal Cliff That Isn’t ! – Bring it on !

Just how can the Republicans be so against cutting the deficit when since they could not agree on a real plan, a pre-arranged deal by both party’s across the board 10% cut in spending is like the end of the world.

Pretty simple. They do not have control of what gets cut.

Why does that bother them?

They only want to cut government oversight of company activity like Banks and include FDA, EPA, Education and most things that protect or provide the middle class with a decent standard of protection.

President Obama seems content to let the 10% cut go through as he will never get any deal with this congress.  But there are those screaming that it will hurt if not end the recovery. Why?

Again,  it does not cut what they want and precious pork provided to congressional districts back home will not have room in the system.

There was no study, but if you look back at the stats of taxation and job growth in the united states, they are one in the same so when the tax breaks expire. Good for that.

So whats wrong with a 10 % cut and a few percentage points of tax reduction expiration. After all, those tax cuts along with a few checks in the mail were a unpaid liability from the last administration. Yea, we had to borrow from India and China for those checks Bush sent us. It’s time we paid all of this back. Besides, the more they had cut taxes and borrowed more to do it, the worse it got.

Bring on the cuts and a little tax. Problem mostly solved for now so we can get on with the nations business.

Since they do not want the across the board 10% reduction, they first will have to make it a doomsday event in your eyes so they can change it to what they want. What part of deficit reduction that they will get that they do not want ?

3 percent of Americans have been headed to the edge of that cliff and nobody is talking about them and so nothing will be done !

Sharing the PAIN is the most reasonable approach yet. Bring it on !

What Does The Romney “ENERGY PLAN” Mean and Does It Matter?

Just before the RNC Convention, Mitt Romney announced his Energy Plan To Energy Independence. In reality, we are likely to be energy independent faster if he is not elected. The process has already began but he is making it his plan. If you read into his plan well, it would be a wonder he does not upset what would be a clear victory in Texas ( i’ll explain later).

Now that is a easy thing to say but let me give you some tough realities.

Just with the idea of Domestic Oil and Gas production has been increasing the past couple of years and most of this increase is do to hydrological fracturing or “fracking” deep shale deposits. The price of natural gas has been coming down swiftly as there is more supply than demand. So much more supply that most company’s drilling has come to a near limited halt until a new infrastructure of pipelines can be created to get it to processing plants and then to the end user.

Current drilling rigs have been displaced from western Pennsylvania to eastern Ohio where they have discovered oil and “wet gas” that make ventures a whole lot more profitable in the “Utica Shale” play.

Fleets of gasoline and diesel trucks are being converted to natural gas. That play should relieve any bottlenecks that the refiners complain about when they hike their prices.

Compressed natural gas (CNG) stations are springing up everywhere to serve these fleets and soon any car or truck.

Wind energy generation capacity continues to expand and is not near 2 percent utilized even at all those new wind generators. Some states like Ohio and Michigan could be key net exporters of electric energy from wind generation just from the massive wind in their lakes.

One could ask why Romney or anyone else would want to open for new wells of the coast of Virginia or North Carolina because the trend does not show we are going to need it and I would like to think of those as a last resort because in at peace time, the U.S. Military is the largest consumer of oil outside of the U.S. as a whole.

It is the same as we have seen for the last few decades. we allow it to be drilled, oil company bids it and they drill just a few wells to tie it up. Or they just drill and not pump.  Don’t forget it is in the oil company’s’ interest not to produce very much as it keeps the price going up.

I think it is time to put expiration on lease contracts of public property drilling. Drill it, pump it in a set time before your lease is up !

Now why does this Energy Plan not upset folks in Texas?

Why should they be upset? Pretty simple. Even those in Texas thought they were for the XL pipeline until they were faced with eminent domain right of ways were being used to plow through private property for not a utility, but a private company. Yes, they are  stormin mad and I can’t find a reason for Romney to say anything about it in his energy plan.  If he should lose Texas, he would have to win Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida and some other unlikely states to win.

The other thing I just can’t figure out the purpose of in his energy plan is for the states to have control of the offshore drilling. Those states in question have bigger regulations stopping it than the federal government. Unless they figure it is more corruptible at the state level.

In any case we are already on a path to energy Independence with or without Romney and his plan. It could happen even sooner if demand goes down from effective use. Trends show as the baby boomers get older, we will drive much less.

As always, energy independence has been a national security issue to me but I can only think that if Romney gets elected and follows through with his plans, we might not achieve this and of course they will blame it on the democrats. But a whole bunch of folks will get rich over the matter that otherwise would not.

Gas & Oil Prices Too High ? Keystone Pipeline XL Will Make it worse !

After listening to the debate on the Keystone Pipeline construction and hearing about all those jobs it would create, I thought there must be something wrong with it as it sounded to good for a President of the United States to reject in the middle of a weak economy and high energy prices.   So I began to find out just what reasons could be behind what seems to be a straight forward … cut and dry issue.  After all, it did  seem odd that a company official would go out of his way to say that “if the U.S. does not want the oil, he would be happy to sell it to the Chinese !” Because I would think that if he could do that, he would and there would be no issue here for building a pipeline that is very expensive to build. They don’t create jobs from the goodness of their hearts, they do it to make money. But at who’s expense ?

I did not have to search long, as the answer was immediate as my first search to Wikipedia.com to see just where this pipeline was to be constructed.

Before telling you what I seen and please wait till I explain a few things before you go have a looksy for yourself.

As of Sometime on March 13, 2012 I have a quote for oil prices and are as follows:

WTI ( West Texas Intermediate ) US Traded Oil,  at $ 106.88

Brent ( Brent North Sea ) Europe Traded Oil, at $ 125.34

Now you can see if you owned oil in the nations mid-section, you might want to sell it overseas for a additional $20 per barrel. the oil itself is extracted from tar sands in such remote places in Canada that it is hard to get it anywhere and that is why  China has not contracted for it yet.

This Keystone Pipeline has been built already. What they now want to do is expand it.

Phase one was completed in June 2010 and runs from Hardisty, Alberta Canada to Steel City Nebraska and to Wood River Illinois where the refineries are. It has a flow capacity of 590,000 barrels of oil per day.

Phase 2 was completed in Feb 2011 and runs from Steel City Nebraska to Cushing, Oklahoma.

Now the big argument as of late is  the Phase 3 XL & Phase 4 XL extensions.

Phase 3 proposal is to start at the Cushing, OK area and proceed to Port Arbor & Huston Texas.

Does that make sense to anyone ? Take oil from where to is hard to get at and take it to where it is most abundant ?

No it absolutely does not ! And the only reason for taking it there is to sell to the Chinese or anyone willing to pay more for it.

What good does it do the U.S. to open more drilling oil fields if the oil is shipped overseas ?

What about Phase 4 XL

To help with the volume problem that the Canadian Oil Sands Company has getting the oil out of their country, they want to build a extra line, west of the original line that ends up in Cushing OK again.

As far as jobs created if constructed:

Good paying construction jobs that will last but a few years at most & a few jobs to maintain the system once complete.

Jobs lost if constructed:

Well, it hard to calculate just how many jobs in trucking and railroad would be lost as that is how they currently move the stuff around but I would venture out on a limb and say probably two to every one that would have been created.

It would create a very nice looking bottom line for those invested in the oil sands of Canada ! They only needed $40 a barrel to be profitable. If completed, they should be able to get near the Brent price for it and the US shortfall should push prices here to that level as well.

OK, here is the wiki link

You can see if this happens, it will raise the price of oil in the United States and Canada.

Want to have a impact on prices, promote these ideas:

Oil Company’s should not be allowed to bid on their own future oil contracts. There is no market auction in the world that I know of where the Owner is allowed to bid on their own items up for auction.

Investment Banks ( largest oil players in world) that own oil commodities and oil tanker company’s, should not be able to give advise on the subject to clients without “disclosing how much oil the bank is holding outside of market inventories“. This in itself would change everything.

When the oil rush is on, (created by a scare) the investment banks who buy “spot oil” and stuff it into oil tankers and leave it off shore where it is subject to pirates, takes that inventory off the market and creates a shortage where they have been advising the average investor to buy and then the bank sells you that cheap spot oil in the futures market for a 20 to 30 percent premium.

The condition is called con-tango and in our modern case it is created by the banks. Problem is, there is no stopping it except a total collapse of the system. i.e. the $100 a barrel drop when the housing market imploded. Oil was trading at $ 150 per barrel and there was no shortage of production as it relates to consumption. Stockpiles were full.

Since it has re-started, I can see nothing to stop $200 a barrel oil this year unless the world takes action to regulate how it is traded and who may bid. That would mean it is not going to happen until the market collapses.

I still have visions of MAD MAX movie in my head with Master Blaster… You Want heat, Be nice to Master Blaster

In any case, this is not a free market price. There is no shortage of oil or oil production. Just those who profit from those who speculate. The end consumer looses no matter what.

If you are one who thinks opening up more fields for oil drilling would help, ask yourself now how the price can go so high when there is no shortage and also ask yourself the following:

Why the oil fields we opened for drilling in the past dozen years are not being drilled in any meaningful way. Just enough to keep from loosing contracts (use it or loose it). It might help if no one company could get a exclusive on a oil field and especial offshore fields. Then many company’s would have a opportunity to drill if others were not extracting enough. That is a free market.

Oil company’s never miss a high price opportunity to force the public to force the government to open up for more drilling fields that they lock-up contracts for and do little to nothing with them. Why would they want to produce more, it would flood the market and the price would go down. Self defeating. They only want to make sure no others can drill and extract that oil and move prices lower.
