Rich Folks Don’t Create Jobs

Every once in a while, you run into a person that personifies something you have been saying or thinking.

I found just that person:

“Nick Hanauer” and his TED TALK “Rich people don’t create jobs”
It is the first time that I know a TED TALK had been banned from being published.

Later released by a high level of public pressure at a later time. Please enjoy.

Oh… how true it is that if they created jobs with those tax breaks, there would be no unemployment to speak of.
What do they do with the money is a topic I have been trying to speak of here. They spend it not on building a better mousetrap. That would employ more folks and bring more competition. It would even create more tax revenue.

They take that money we gave them in tax relief and buy other company’s out (merger and acquisition) and reduces competition and employment  by getting rid of duplicate jobs within the organization. This brings even higher profits and less jobs. Jobs are always a hindrance to profits.

The problem has become so bad now, at the point where we are right now , there are not enough folks working to pay the taxes so tax rates need to go up on the working class. And they now have less to spend and the rich can only get richer if they keep extracting more by paying less taxes and that game will be played till they pay nothing. Then what ?

Since we really don’t have the ability to tax the middle class enough to make-up for what we have been cutting taxes on the rich, we only get higher deficits. The rich make such a big deal about the deficits as only to constrain spending in the government in enforcement of regulation as they do not want the government looking over their shoulder.

We have plenty of rules and regulation, yes we do, and they were put there only because corporate America has miss-behaved before and they wish to do it again. You know, that pesky old “RED TAPE” that is keeping them from creating jobs ! When really, it is keeping them from making higher profits. More often than not those RED TAPE rules create jobs if you can believe that. But they have a impact on profits.

If you want no rules for the corporation, move to China and try to breath the air without getting cancer or drink the water without getting mercury poisoning.  Oh… I guess they (corporate America) did already move there didn’t they. How long will the Chinese folks put up with air they can not breath. I guess they can loose a million or so to cancer or poisoning and you might not notice.

Moot point is you keep getting sold a bill of goods about tax rates and deficits and you are buying it lock-stock and barrel.

What to do with Affordable Care Act AKA Obomacare

This going to be one of the shortest and easiest post I have ever made.

It all comes down to a principle we use everyday and will  show it by example.

When our constitution is found to be inadequate in some area, we do not throw it out the window and start over. We amend it and fix problems that were not originally envisioned.

So why or how could anyone suggest the same for the Affordable Care Act. I always expected that we would be fixing problems with it for some time to come. After all, it is one of the biggest platforms the government has ever created and it is not like we have done something like this before to use as a guide.

Check their motivations.

I will say that I think the Presidents advisers are selling him under as they are motivated by a job on the outside as the end of their job is near and a little nudge here and there to favor the companies that have already hired them before they are out on the street.

I guess that is just capitalism but not a good democracy !

What was that thing Ross Perot said ?

StarFish And Coffee – The Syrian Dialemma

Once again the world is called to act.  The Worlds Political Capitol has been spent already on a terrible unjustifiable war in Iraq.

Why is it the world can never seem to get it right. I guess because there is no Halliburton to make Billions to convince you.

I feel like Cynthia Rose. If you set your mind free baby, maybe you’ll understand.

NSA Wire/Data Tapping – Terror vs Your Rights

There are several things that need to be stated up-front:

Data has been collected by companies for more than 20 years at a much higher intrusive level than the government has been doing and the government will say nothing about it because if they need the information, they just subpoena that info from that company.

Company’s exist that do nothing but “DATA MINE”, meaning their sole purpose as a company is to collect the data you leave behind with your shopper discount cards, credit card purchases and on-line habits. While many of these do not have user specific data, they are traceable data and be connected together with just a few overlapping facts.

Personal data is bought and sold freely by all companies and as I said before, connecting a lot of harmless information with other information is a high value business. Today they can even track your cell phone when you even shop in a store (even if you buy nothing) and what department you were in and how long in real time  (read the latest privacy policy updates from your cell carrier).  this type of tracking can be used by the government also. Once again, while the government is not allowed to do that the company’s are and the government will just subpoena the data from those that collect it.

We know from a 60 Minutes News story that a port replicator was installed in a AT&T head-end room as shown to us by a whistle blower more than 5 years ago. For those that do not understand what a port replicator is…

A small device in this instance that is installed where all phone and data is centralized to the network and every bit of data is split into two parts. One to where it would normally go (so the invasion has no effect on speed) and the duplicate data stream goes to the NSA. This gives them access to everything in real time and nobody would know when and where you are being monitored or recorded for access at a latter time.

One can assume that Verizon, Comcast and Time Warner have a similar Port Replicator. Giving access to all phone and data in real time.

A word about Terror before we connect things together.

If you look at how much money is being thrown at the need to be “safe” from a terror plot, one can hardly justify the recording of all data records.

What brought this to more of a head is the fact that the NSA wants and is building a massive facility to continue recording what they call “META DATA”.

Two points to be made here. First meta-data by their definition is just the number you call from and when and where you made the call, how long it lasted. It is unclear by their claim how much of a email is stored and who’s emails are stored.

Second, The size of this new facility tells us two things. One, they intend to keep the records forever and they are looking to record more than just meta-data. The technology that the government has access to in data density (the physical size storage space required to store high amounts of records) is second to none in the world.

Most of us are split between the need to be safe and the need to be private.

Why a need to maintain privacy ?

Do you want to be judged on how you think about something, or even misspoke ? As I always mention from time to time, Pandora’s Box will always be opened because it can be.

The point I am making here is as I feared when the Patriot Act was passed,

“HOW DO YOU KEEP THIS INFORMATION FROM BEING USED FOR POLITICAL GAIN”

If you can not connect those dots, you are dooming us as Americans and have no understanding for what the Constitution stands for.

Can we have a Secure monitoring system for anti-terror and have privacy ?

Probably not, but we can have checks-and-balances as the founding fathers intended.

What I am suggesting here is these simple rules to be applied:

1: A limit of 6 years of data collection records for those that reside on American Soil or are  American Citizen.

2: After 5 years, Any Accesses to records of anyone “On American soil AND Citizens” become PUBLIC INFORMATION.  Not the information, just the type of data was accessed, when and most important, for what reason ? This way we can have a check on the system even if it is a delayed look at it.

3: Some method has to be devised that can tell us every and anytime information has been accessed it is recorded and a review board made up of 3 Senate Members, 3 House members, 1 from the Supreme Court and 7 Citizens to review that info in real time to be made public after 8 years. This is still not enough to retard the breach of information for political purposes but is a start to have a chance of a early warning… Someone Knows !

4: Anyone breaching theses rules shall be tried for treason/undermining the constitution and a mandatory 10 years in federal prison.

This way, if things do get out of control, there will be a person/persons to be held accountable and a retardant to commit the crime and we have some security (at a high price) against terror.

It is inevitable that the uses of this information being collected will be used for normal law enforcement  (Pandora’s Box again) when folks come to terms with the normalcy of it being collected in the first place.

It seems to me from the many years of watching what company’s have been collecting on people that they are trying to make your behavior  “PREDICTABLE”. Even the banks and credit card Co’s want to predict what and how much you will spend and when.

Could your interest rates be judged in what you are likely to do and not what you actually do ? Probably just around the corner.

What if the data is not pure or correct ? Could you go to jail on bad info because you let someone use your computer and/or cellphone ?

You have been profiled by corporate America for some time now and the data keeps getting better all the time as nobody seems to be sounding the alarms and it seems nobody cares or understands the dangers.

Many have even patented software that do just that from collected data. It is unclear at this point if they are using it and how effective it is until they are able to connect more dots.

The movie “Minority Report”  does not seem so far fetched in my lifetime. Just replace those “seers” with computers. Pandora’s Box Once again. It will be opened because it can.

These are your rights being affected so it you do nothing to shape your future concerning them, you get what you deserve. Being properly aware is the first step.

How would YOU design the iPhone 6 ?

It might seem I’m jumping the gun here… but this years (2013) release will be the 5-s. So if you were the designer, what would you stack-into the iPhone 6 ?

Here is my short list:

1: 3D camera

This is about to be done by the aftermarket folks anyway so why not design a good one right in there.

2: Beef-Up i/o interface

A more friendly and faster output i/o interface for the ability to connect more devices capable of controlling more things. What specifically… I’m not sure but I know many of the things I have tried to do, it is not fast enough if you have background apps running. The outside programmers will fill the void.

3: Faster processor

A quad core processor would handle the above problem if it is (1) faster and (2) uses only one of them for background tasks. So this would not change the speed of the app you are using (foreground) when something happens like you get email, text or a event announcement/alarm.

4: Video Output

Since the Oculus Rift will be out in 2014 (sometime), I would like to be able to view everything that would be on the display, on any video headset. Currently, I can only watch the video output of YouTube and personal movie clips. This could also add some privacy  to what you are reading or working on.

If these smartphones are going to replace PC’s like everyone seems to think, they are going to need the ability to interface with outside hardware with a direct or wi-fi connection. So we will need much more memory to hold drivers for those devices. I really can not see the time when they will replace a PC because even if we get such a device that can do much more, the tech curve will change also for the PC and you just can not carry that much cutting edge power in your pocket. Try to edit a 20 minute 1080p video with your smartphone ! In a few years when they can, the standard will be twice that resolution and in 3D. Very hard for a pocket device to keep up with that tech curve.

It is only now that the average person who only needs to communicate can replace their PC with a SmartPhone.

Want to do more than that, You need a PC !

Of course, there is nothing like being ale to carry your favorite tunes with you and be able to play them over a blue-tooth enabled car stereo. It is not so novel when trying to do the same with documents or 3d printer files or cad drawings ????? You get the idea, it still can’t be everything to all. Just because you don’t need that does not mean that many other don’t.

In short, they will always be able to do more every year with a smartphone, but so will the PC in an even higher exponential !

Replace the PC…. I don’t think so. Only for those that don’t do much anyway.

The Promise Of The Internet Is Now – The Ground Rules Are Changing Forever

Everyone told us years ago that the internet was gong to change everything without being specific. This was really being said at the time HTML format made navigation easy for anyone. You did not need to know UNIX commands, just a click of the mouse would do it. While the Internet was powerful by itself, if not for HTML, it would not have grown by much more than the BBS systems that were a standard of the same time.

At that time I had been a early adopter and was getting on the internet via a long distance call and CompuServe and was a UNIX command line operation.

By the time I had experienced both the internet and HTML, I quickly began to see specifically the way things were going to change.

Here were my thoughts from the early 1990’s

Music and Movies would not be controlled by the traditional distributors. It would be possible for a musician or a producer to market his/her products and ideas to those who might want them.

It reminded me of the Beetles “Apple Records”.

The beetles  had stated that the purpose of the record company was so that musicians did not have to give up there soul begging to distribute their talents to very greedy people.

So this is the first item of thought that had occurred to me with the Internet applied to most anything that traditionally has distribution controlled by a select few.

You can now see this begin to play out in NETFLIX, HULU and others in the video & entertainment area as they are now hosting original content. They will have to attract their own original content because the cable company’s have been busy the last 10 years buying up all the traditional content providers (movie makers) . Well they have been playing the same monopolistic game for some pretty high profits for years but now it’s going to change.

I mean to say that 2 cable company’s control 85% or more of content (movies and shows)  available for you to see. Now Comcast has a interest in HULU. A problem compounded by the fact the Cable CO’s also have better than 80% control  delivering the internet. A total conflict of interest.

Apple’s iTunes store has maintained the traditional means of distribution but changed who can retail the traditionally distributed music, magazines and soon TV.

What has excited me lately, to nearly complete the ground shaking internet explosion to change everything is this, that I will take from recent events and prove it has changed everything. And it only the beginning.

Going after venture capital is always a tough thing. Well, Along came KICKSTARTER.COM and changed the way and who will invest venture capital and who would decide what a worthwhile product or service was.

This is for those that have an idea that they want to proceed with and explained with a detail in a business summary and give prospective investors perks in their product or services once their fund raising goal is met.

So let’s take one project of thousands of successful campaigns on kickstarter.

OCULUS

A kid several years ago who was a gamer with a interest in virtual reality and who had a quest for a better VR HEADSET/GOGGLES that actually worked in a truly immersing 3d way.

At 20 years old, he started a kickstarter campaign for a stereoscopic 3d goggle that was just such a device. VR was considered a has been up to this point because it really was not truly immersive. This was probably not something he was going to get moving in any way with those that traditionally control the manufacturing and distribution of tech products or game system producers.

He met his fundraising goal in the first day of the campaign. What was the product ?

The OCULUS Rift

I believe he produced about 8000 units probably to game developers and hard core gamers for the easy $300 price tag. (His KICKSTARTER Campaign)

He now has over $30 million in backing and growing. Soon to release a enhanced version of this product with standards that can be incorporated by game developers and manufactures sometime in 2014 (that’s next year folks).

Do you think this 20 year old would have stood a chance in the traditional world ? Absolutely not. One or more of those company’s that he might have submitted his prototype with the hope of getting this off the ground would have just stole his ideas and sent him on his way.

The Internet Made All of this Possible and reminds me of why the FAB4 started “Apple Records” !

This is not just a tale of one guy who had extremely successful product ideas on kickstarter as there are many… Just Look.

Look-up how many 3D printer products have got there start from a kickstarter campaign. The PIRATE Buckeneer is one that comes to mind just recently.

It is funny that I would bring up the 3d printer. This is another product that will soon change our lives in many ways very soon.

Folks are getting funded for their art and movies along with those better household product ideas.

I can only hope that these folks remember the fundamentals of what the free internet has done for them when it comes under attack from those in traditional control who will promote laws favoring themselves and not the true free internet market.

Having seen my dreams of the internet begin to come to fruition, I think it is about time to  kick-start on my vision of 20 years at what is now possible…. all because the internet is free, powerful and the largest equalizer the world has ever known. Big or small, you are all the same (minus search engine and speed throttle manipulation). You truly have a equal chance to make it. Your ideas don’t have to stay ideas.

Everyone is or can be a entrepreneur.
