Hey FCC… I want My Airwaves Back !

Do you listen to good old Public Radio and/or TV?

If you don’t listen to radio anymore, I understand.

To the FCC I say “I want my airwaves back”.

I fully support the right of free speech but it does most often come with a price. But gee-whiz I can not listen to the AM radio while traveling when 90% of the stations are carrying no more than 3 different Talking Heads and FM is starting to turn the same way. Can’t these folks take their agenda to XM and if folks want to pay for it they can hear all of it their hart desires.Listening to those that not only lie through their teeth, are hell bent on only one issue “Nothing Obama Does Is Right”. OK fine you want to knock the President once in a while for ratings even if you have to lie to get them. I’ll give you that. But does this need to be a 5 and 7 day a week thing. Could you talk about something else even just one day a week. It has tuned from talk shows to a bash President show entirely. Again, without taking away free speech,  how do you stop this crap. One could say if they are telling direct lies like many have done on this health care issue and getting public meetings that turn violent, it is inciting a riot. I fear this kind of stuff is only going to get worse because it can. Pandora’s box it is. So they claim to be entertainment and not news so they can lie all they want but how does this serve the public interest I ask the FCC.

The original and still standing rule that the FCC has in oversight is that the Radio Waves that we use for AM/FM/XM radio and Television and Telephone and Data is because it is a PUBLIC TRUST and they are the TRUSTEE. This has been twisted on its head as congress set aside spectrum to be auctioned off in the 90’s to Corporate America.

Now I remember the old argument that if you do not like the programming on TV… Change the channel!

Well what the hell… I do and hear the same thing again and again so I turn it off.

Now for television…

The great mergers of the Cable and Movie Companies have ensured that there will be no quality programming on good old FREE TV with exception of PBS and I only like about 1/3 of that.

Yea… now you got to pay for all those “I Love Lucy” and “Bugs Bunny” programs and watch twice as many commercials as you did when it was Free. You probably have to buy 20 channels for every one you actually want. I hear the cable company’s saying that if we did not do it this way, we would have to drop a bunch of channels like Disney.

“BULLSHIT”… (Gee… I do not hear the republicans talking against this subsidy) If nobody wants to pay for Disney to watch it then why should I. It is to be a free market and survival of the fittest is it not?  This is scare tactic to make everyone think they would pull Disney from the line-up while a hundred others that no one watches would stay on??? Packages are designed to hide the cost and value. You see it in stores… “buy 2 at full price and get one 50% off” as opposed to 17% off or “save 25 cents”. It really comes down to the fact that if folks had the choice to select exactly what they want, the cable company’s would loose 60% of there revenue or more and 80% of their profits. Please look at historical record of their profits from 1985 to now. Many of the channel line-ups they do not pay anything for and some they actually charge to carry on their system.

Now Ted Turner was the one who virtually invented the game along with local commercials through the system and bought most movie company’s and was duped by the system he created by Time Warner. Gee Ted… how is it on the outside looking in like the rest of us?

While I am very aware of what Free TV is now-a-days and it is not much even with the advent of DTV with more channels…WOW… even more Infomercials and in a crystal clear digital picture! I do not subscribe to any Video service that is not free as it is on the web. I am not a couch potato and use my time more wisely and more productively.

Thanks Congress and FCC for making me a more productive American. For those of you who like being Fleeced I say Its your money, its your choice, nothing will be done unless you stop giving them your money. I am waiting for them to try to own the internet next as real innovation and entertainment is starting to flourish through non traditional formats. Well they almost do as they deliver most internet services.

Please give me back my airwaves.

The Moot Point:

I Think It Was “WE THE PEOPLE” not “WE THE CORPORATIONS”
